Transport Malta has issued Commercial Yachting Notice 12 dated 20th March 2024.
CY12 is a notice to Yacht Owners, Yacht Operators, Managers, Masters, Owners’ Representatives, Appointed Surveyors and Recognised Organisations. It communicates that due to internal and external feedback from various stakeholders and to facilitate this important segment’s growth, the Merchant Shipping Directorate has designed a code dedicated to Small Commercial Yachts <24m Length.
The Small Commercial Yacht Code (sCYC), which strives to tailor the regulatory regime to the specific needs, demands, and technology of this market in compliance with safety and international norms and standards, will better serve the interests of the yachting industry.

Effective April 1, 2024, the sCYC applies to all commercial yachts under 24 metres in length.
Commercial yachts under 24 metres in length that have already received certification under the Commercial Yacht Code (CYC) must adhere to the standards of the sCYC by the time of the yacht’s first renewal survey, which takes place after June 1, 2024.
The requirements for yachts under 24 metres in length included in CYC 2020 are revoked and replaced by the issuance of sCYC.
Yachts certified by sCYC that are engaged in commercial operations within the territorial seas of another nation must additionally adhere to any extra regulations mandated by that specific nation or port state.
