ASOG, CAM & TAM – Operational Activity Planning
Operational activity planning studies can be supplied by Vassallo Associates, in addition to all other DP related consultancy and documentation. All work follows IMCA guidance and class requirements.
The methods described in the Operational Activity Planning Document apply to all sectors of the offshore industry, including:
- Drilling
- Project
- Construction
- Supply
The processes are generally applied to dynamic positioning vessels, but they can also be used by non-DP vessels.
Operational activity planning includes:
CAM – Critical Activity Mode
The Critical Activity Mode (CAM), is the machinery and equipment setup for the majority of activities, and defines the most fault tolerant configuration.
Task Appropriate Mode – TAM
Advice on Task Appropriate Mode(s) (TAM), which is a setup that is not the most fault tolerant, but may be suitable for some operations.
Activity Specific Operating Guidelines – ASOG
Activity Specific Operating Guidelines (ASOG), define the variable limits in equipment and operational parameters for a specific job. A vessel will usually have several of these, for use in different areas and for different work. We supply a vessel specific general ASOG in editable format, to enable the crew to modify it as appropriate.
Following IMCA recommendations, the documents are presented in an easy to understand tabular format, for easy reference. The ASOG is generally printed and copies kept at the DP control station and engine control room, so it can be readily used as a decision support tool.
Related Services
The following related services are also offered by Vassallo Associates:
FMEA (Failure Mode Effect and Analysis)
An FMEA study is available from Vassallo Associates, for the following:
- New Vessels
- Conversions
- Upgrades from DP class 1 to DP class 2
- Re-write for existing vessels to reflect its current equipment or to upgrade an old FMEA
DP Operations Manual
All DP vessels that need to have an FMEA also require a vessel specific DP Operations Manual. Vassallo Associates can write and supply this document either at the same time as an FMEA, or independently.
DP Trials
Annual DP trials which are required every year, within 3 months plus or minus, of the original FMEA proving trials anniversary date.
Periodic DP trials, which are conducted within 5 years of the original FMEA proving trials, and every five years subsequently.
CAM (Critical Activity Mode), TAM (Task Appropriate Mode), and ASOG (Activity Specific Operating Guidelines) are important because they define the vessel’s operational modes and guidelines, ensuring safe and efficient positioning control tailored to the specific tasks and operational conditions being performed.
